Katy O'Sullivan

Pilates Instructor

Bio & Qualifications

I trained in Contemporary dance, although this was supported with many other disciplines of dance; Ballet, Tap, Modern and Jazz but went on to study my BA Hons degree in Dance Performance at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. I completed my MA with Transitions Dance Company at the Laban Centre. I danced professionally for a number of years before having my children and moving to work in the corporate world.

I have always loved to be physical and so although I have been working in an office for over a decade, I have always continued with physical activities outside of work, including Pilates.

Pilates is the only method of exercise that has continually worked for me through various stages of my life. As a professional dancer I used it to condition my body, maintain strength and prevent injury. As a mother of two, it has repaired my body after giving birth and throughout my time working in a desk based job (and the delightful ageing process) - it has helped with posture and core strength, keeping me supple and managing aches and pains.

I am an enthusiastic person, finding real joy being with and around people. I am a mother to two girls who keep me endlessly busy and two rather energetic dogs. I enjoy taking long walks, eating good food, the cinema and the theatre and I’m always up for ac hallenge like hiking a mountain or a tough mudder.

Areas of special interest

I have a particular interest in rehabilitation; helping individuals who are dealing with a condition, injury or illness to help them gain confidence and be able to enjoy their lives and not be restricted by their bodies.

Goals for your patients

I love to help people and work with them to get the most out of their bodies. I have friends and family who have suffered through illness and injury and I have seen a loss of confidence take hold of them. They lose the trust in their body's ability to support and work for them, which in turn has a significant impact on their emotional wellbeing. Pilates has helped them build strength and control, and ultimately gain that confidence back in their day to day living.
