February 2020 Newsletter

Please join us in welcoming the two latest members of team Bridgeham!

Sharron Rushbrook

Pilates Instructor

“I had been practising Pilates for around 10 years and my inspiration was to become a Pilates Instructor, so I studied and have qualified as a Body Control instructor.

I have always been an active person, both in my previous profession and leisure.  I played rugby, lots of gym work, team sports, running and was feeling healthy but very compact and whilst I felt strong also always felt tight. A friend suggested Pilates to‘lengthen’ me, feel leaner ...... so I tried it ..... and here I am, feeling leaner. Pilates has certainly benefited my body, strengthening my core and balance (which was shocking!) Whilst it is a great complementary exercise regime what I wasn’t expecting was how it helped with my mental health. It is a wonderful exercise to focus and release mentally as well – what more can you ask for!

As a fully qualified Body Control instructor and in keeping with the Bridgeham ethos, my classes will be small to guarantee individual attention and create a small friendly atmosphere to bond together in a mass of spine curls, double leg stretches and teasers.”

Amy Graves

Yoga Teacher

"I am a certified vinyasa yoga teacher, vinyasa yoga incorporates the breath and body together to flow through poses. I am passionate about making yoga practice safe; focusing on body alignment while onthe mat and having fun while exercising too! I want you to feel empowered by yourself through yourself on your mat, connecting the body, mind and breath, as well as feel confident to try new poses. You'll get that feel good sensational from every class as we work on strengthening the body while relaxing the mind and focusing on lengthening the breath."

Happy Chinese New Year!

Chinese New Year 2020 - the Year of the Yang Metal Rat!

What does this mean for you?

Chinese New Year is on January 25th this year. It changes from year to year as the date is governed by the lunar calendar.

Each year has a different quality to it and a different set of useful associations to help us stay well and happy.

As this year is a Yang Metal Rat (Geng Zi) year for example,it is suggested we eat rice, wheat or millet regularly to help us stay healthy. Also suggested are peaches and apricots.

The symbol of the Yang Metal aspect is the sword, axe or metallic minerals. Metal suggests cutting away what is not needed, harvesting what is required. Another characteristic is bravery or steadfastness.

The rat aspect is connected to intelligence and wisdom. Rats are quick, tactical and problem solvers - thoughtful and alert.

Both aspects are connected to water: the Metal part is closely connected to storms and rainwater whereas the Rat is more about oceans and cold water.

Of course, how you react to the year's energy and what it will bring for you also depends on how it relates to your own birth chart -some people will weather the year better than others.

Chinese medicine can help you to understand your own constitution and how the energy of the coming year will affect you and how you can best prepare yourself for a healthy and happy year ahead.

Using your birth chart for constitutional guidance, your pulses for an understanding of your health in the day of treatment as well as modern western and ancient Chinese forms of diagnosis, our acupuncturist Selena can prepare a bespoke treatment to tackle current health or emotional issues or to prevent problems arising.

To celebrate the start of the Year of the Yang Metal Rat, weare offering £5 off any NEW patient appointments booked for the period from 25th January to 25th February. Quote MRAT when booking.

Himalayan Trek

We're so proud to support our patients and their fundraising efforts!

Here's what Dawn has to say about her upcoming Himalayan trek!

"On the 26th  Mar I am setting off with Charity Challenge for the Dalai Lama Himalayan Trek, to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

We depart from Heathrow and fly to Delhi, board an overnight train, and arrive at the world's highest mountain range in Dharamsala. Here we commence our Trek at 3050m above sea level. Our expedition follows the Uhl River, through remote Tibetan villages, sleeping in tents.

I have self-funded the Trek, and everything I raise will
go directly to my chosen charity.

Unfortunately, PCUK receives only 1% of all the available resources from Cancer Research, and yet is the most lethal form of cancer, and the 5th most common. The UK survival rate is around 3% and is amongst the worst in the world and hasn’t changed in 40 years! Hence the reason I have chosen to support thischarity, having lost my Godmother 30 years ago to this terrible disease".

Congratulations to this months' testimonial winner, Ms. F!

Here is what she said about her osteopathy experience:

"I cannot recommend Bridgeham enough. Amazing people who listen and give you the time needed to help with the symptoms you arrive with... to the relief you leave with."

If you haven't already given us a testimonial then why not write one on Google, Facebook, by email or next time you're in clinic. You too could be in with a chance to win a £50 treatment voucher!

See you in clinic…you’ve got to be in it to win it!

If you'd like to book any of these great options, you can do this online, through our app or by calling our lovely reception team on 01293542 245.
