What is Osteopathy?
GOC Certification MarkThe General Osteopathic Council defines osteopathy as "a system of diagnosis and treatment with the main emphasis on the structural integrity of the body".

Osteopaths are trained to look at problems within the body and then establish why these problems come about. Root causes may be within poor posture, tight muscles, weak muscles, habits, genetics, trauma, or varying combinations of these to some degree.

Osteopaths recognise that imbalance of the body's structure will compromise its function. Acute and chronic postural compensation and adaptation within the tissues means that the body is then less able to deal with normal daily stress and tissues can be strained during 'normal' daily activities. This is why something as simple as bending over tying up your shoelaces or unloading the dishwasher can end in tears!
